Counselling or therapy are talking treatments, involving regular meetings at the same time and place every week. The length of treatment will be agreed between you and the counsellor or therapist. This might be quite short for specific issues or many months where issues are long standing. Each session lasts about 50 minutes. The content of the session will be confidential to the people in the session.
The counselling or therapy relationship is not like social relationships as it is limited to the session. This creates a safe place in which to explore past and present feelings and the meaning of past and current relating.
